This is our finla clip. The idea is that I take a picture of the Cuba St fountain with a virtual pen which I fold into a dart and send to my friend in England. On route it travels around the world.
I think this is a nice way of putting a tangible form to something like emailing, social networking or blogging. -modern communication. Of course paper planes dont fly around the world, this just gives it a nice aesthetic. It puts form to what is actually beyeond our vision. That is electronic communication.
It also put thought the idea how cool it would be if we could transform what we could see on to something. What if what we could see could be recorded and transmitted to nay where around the world?
this shot is one of me at the infamous Cuba St bucket fountain. The idea is that I have seen the fountain I have take a picture with a ‘virtual pen’ and am sending that message around the world. like blogging. kinda. eventually it reached my friend Jack in England. hurrah!
This is one of the images that I superimposed Jack onto. He is getting ready to catch an incoming paper plane. We chose the Banksy wall to be our background because it is a little iconic in England, the place that Jack is receiving the paper plane. Also, I spent hours photoshopping Jack out of studio images. If we wanted to just superimpose people in front of a house, why not just shoot in front of a house. It would be much faster. So after so much photoshop work Dave suggested we may as well superimpose Jack over something is a little quirky or outrageous. Jack looks obviously superimposed in these images. This is because it creates a clear difference between what we see in the clip as the topic and what is background. When shooting our original paper plane idea flying around the city sometimes it was hard to distinguish between what we wanted the audience to see - background or plane foreground.
so far Dan has been working on Google Earth and from what Ive seen look really great.
I have taken the photos neccessary for th Clip. now the labourious process of photoshopping out the BG out. hmm. late nite me thinks..
okay 1 more day till the 101 th’ Clip project is due. its painting it thin but we have taken a new idea on our clip.
we will still go with the idea of paper planes. which was what was going best for the project. what we are omitting is the concept of the plane and its POV. this is what made the aesthetic quality weak. also gone is the ‘Im leaving you’ message. again very weak. pretty sad too.
however a strong point was keeping with the idea using the great technology of Google earth. The graphics look really sweet. I like the idea of when you are in a plane and you see the destination lines of its path. We will use this as a precedent for the darts movement.
The dart will move around to different destinations around the world. the message is passed on from person to person. CONNECTING PEOPLE.
dart mach.3.
we thought it ‘the kiss; gives the plane more meaning and more visual punch. and also adds certain irony to the final message that is delivered.
so today reshot some of my scenes. reshot the first scene in the kitchen at my house in Newtown. thankyou Hayley for being such a great help and hand model.
I also shoot the last secne of the clip. I have changed the idea. Instead of a slap in the face the guy opens the dart and the words appear. in sucession. Im. Leaving. You.
I felt that this was more closer to th clip idea. The idea of a hand slapping a face seemed funny at the time but alos going against the idea of th clip -that is the moving dart.
Tomorrow is our last chance to shoot all scenes. It will be a mammoth day. Dan and I will shoot the scene of the dart going thru the city. We are thinking of using the Manky Chops stairwell as the departure house for the plane. This is followed on from where Hayley is at the table writing a ‘email’.
We also have a lot of work to do with Photoshop and Google Earth.
